Mythology and Etymology[]
The hydra, or the Lernaean Hydra, is a nameless, aquatic, serpent-like creature in Greek myth. The hydra was known to possess many heads and poisonous breath. For each head that was cut off, it was said that two more would grow in its place. The hydra was killed by the Greek hero Heracles as his second labor.
