History and Background[]
Merlin is a legendary figure best known as the wizard featured in the Arthurian legend. The standard depiction of the character first appears in Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae. Merlin often serves as the archetypal sage or mentor.
The ability name and artwork are a reference to a vision Merlin had before a battle. Merlin predicted that Uther Pendragon would defeat the forces of Vortigern to take the throne of England. This was symbolzed by the crest of Uther (a red dragon) overtaking the creast of Vortigern (a white dragon).
